Today we went into the city via The ‘U’ barn, underground railway, only 5 stops from our pad. We spent some time looking at the various shops along the main area called Monkeburgstrasse, we did not spent much time in town today as we had to get home ready to be picked up by one of Rita’s cousins Dieter, who is Rita’s mums, sisters son. We were picked up at 5pm & drove over to where he lives with his wife Gabi in Finkenwerder, a quaint old but restored fishing, riverside area on the opposite side of the Elbe river. After looking around his home we drove to a local true German fish restaurant, the famous ‘ Storchennest ‘ the roof was thatched & storks once nested on the roof, it was an absolutely fantastic dinner, whole fish, sole, with some traditional German additions sush as ‘ smolze’ butter made with lard, delicious. After dinner we went for a drive around this region, passing by Airbus Industries, which employs around 10,000 locals, they have a huge tract of land where all the planes are built and tested. We continued on for about 3 hours driving through the stone fruit, especially cherry growing area, the biggest in Europe where there is dozens of huge mostly restored traditional German farm house / barns, it was very impressive, pith it was raining & we missed being able to take good photos of this area …… All in all we saw so much, it was great ……..,
